Can't open a shift or log in to the register

Staff can't get the POS ready to trade — login fails, or a shift won't open.

Symptoms

  • The register won't accept a login or PIN.
  • You can't open a shift, or the app is stuck on a lock screen.
  • Sales are blocked until a shift is open.

Likely causes

  1. No register account / register not set up for this device.
  2. Wrong credentials or PIN, or the staff member lacks access to this outlet.
  3. A shift is already open on another device, or the previous shift wasn't closed.
  4. App lock is on and needs the unlock code.
  5. Connectivity — login is verified online.

How to fix

  1. Confirm the device has an outlet register set up and that the user has access to that outlet. See Outlet & Register setup.
  2. Re-enter credentials carefully; if forgotten, an admin can reset the user or PIN.
  3. Open a shift before selling. If the system says one is already open, close the previous shift (possibly on another device) first, then open a fresh one.
  4. If you're on the lock screen, enter the unlock code; an admin can reset it in POS/merchant settings if it's lost.
  5. Check the tablet's internet connection — first login and shift actions need to reach the server.
