Marketing & Messaging
Messaging needs credit and a sender
Email and SMS sends draw on your messaging credit balance — top it up under Marketing → Buy Credits before a big send. To send from your own address or number (rather than Rewardly's shared sender), configure custom SMTP/SMS in Merchant Settings.
Overview
The Marketing group is where you reach members — one-off blasts, automated triggers, in-app pop-ups, brand promotions, feedback surveys, and the credits that pay for it all. Everything here targets people who are already in your member list, filtered by their tags, spend, or transaction history.
Three things you build elsewhere feed this group: vouchers (the most common thing to send), tags (how you slice your audience), and email templates (the look of your emails). Each is cross-linked below where it first comes up.
How it works
Every send needs two things: an audience (who) and a message (what). Most tools in this group are just different ways to combine those two — a campaign filters the audience by rules; a tag communication filters by tag; a special date fires on a calendar trigger. The message is always either Custom (your own words) or Voucher (a Live voucher sent to the segment).
Member-facing only
These tools message your enrolled members through email, SMS, and in-app pop-ups. There's no public/web advertising here — Promote My Brand surfaces promotions inside the member app, not on the open web.
Campaigns
A campaign is a one-off email or SMS blast. Open Marketing → Campaigns, then click Create to open the 3-step builder.
1. Audiences
Choose who receives the campaign.
- Pick a filter source — User, Voucher, or Transaction. This decides which fields you can filter on.
- Choose match all (every rule must be true — AND) or match any (any one rule true — OR).
- Add rule chips: pick a field, a match operator, and a value. Values can be text, date, number, true/false, a preset list, or a reference to another record.
A live Total: N preview table updates as you add rules, showing the targeted members (name, phone, email, gender) so you can sanity-check the size before sending.
Points-expiry campaign
A rule of "points will expire in N days" is special — it auto-selects the default email template and injects the merge fields {AMOUNT}, {EXPIRY_DATE}, and {TOTAL_POINTS} so you can nudge members to spend before their points lapse.
2. Message
Choose the channel and content.
| Field | What it does |
|---|---|
| Type | Email or SMS. |
| Content | Custom (compose the message) or Voucher (attach a Live voucher program to send). |
| Email Template | For email: pick a template, with quick links to manage or create Email Templates. |
| SMS message | For SMS: a 200-character message box, with the available text-replacement variables listed below it. |
3. Schedule
Pick a date and time to send. The picker works in 15-minute increments and only accepts future times — you can't schedule a send in the past.
Saving a campaign
Three save actions sit at the bottom:
| Action | What it does |
|---|---|
| Save & Test | Sends a test copy to the admin's own email/phone via a modal — needs a valid template or SMS body. |
| Save & Draft | Saves without sending or scheduling. |
| Save & Schedule it | Saves and queues the send for the scheduled time — needs a schedule date. |
A campaign moves through a fixed status lifecycle: draft → scheduled → sent. Once sent, the campaign is read-only — you can't edit it, only view it. You can delete a campaign (with a confirm prompt) at any stage.
Campaigns spend credit
Every email or SMS a campaign sends draws on your Email/SMS credit balance. Test your audience size with the live Total count first, and check your balance under Buy Credits before scheduling a large blast.
Campaign Bots
Campaign Bots (Marketing → Campaign Bots) are automated, triggered campaigns. They use the same email-template and voucher machinery as Campaigns, but instead of firing once at a scheduled time, they fire on a condition — recurring rules that run automatically whenever a member matches. Use a campaign for a one-off blast; use a bot for an ongoing "whenever X happens, send Y" rule.
Email Templates
Email Templates (Marketing → Email Templates) is a WYSIWYG drag-and-drop builder for the emails your campaigns and bots send. Design a template once, then reuse it across sends. A template named default carries the points-expiry merge content ({AMOUNT}, {EXPIRY_DATE}, {TOTAL_POINTS}) used by the points-expiry campaign rule above.
Tag-based communications
A tag communication targets members by their tag rather than by ad-hoc rules — quicker than building a campaign audience when you already group members by tag.
- Choose type — SMS or Email.
- Pick one or more user tags. A live target customer quantity count appears.
- Choose content type — Custom or Voucher.
The content step only appears once the target quantity is greater than 0 — if no member carries the chosen tags, there's no one to message.
| Content type | What it sends |
|---|---|
| Custom | Your own message. Supports the [[merchant]] and [[subdomain]] variables, with a live preview. SMS subject ("From") ≤ 30 chars and body ≤ 150 chars; email uses rich text. |
| Voucher | Sends a Live voucher to every member in the tagged segment. |
Promote My Brand
Promote My Brand (Marketing → Promote My Brand) publishes promotional banners inside the member app, each tied to a program.
| Field | What it does |
|---|---|
| Name | The promotion's name. |
| Membership | Limit the promotion to a membership tier. |
| Program type / Program | The program this promotion advertises. |
| Image | The banner image. |
| Is show in home | Surface the banner on the app Home screen. |
| Is show in near me | Surface it in the app's Near Me discovery. |
| Is active | Turn the promotion on or off. |
A clicked-count metric tracks how many members tapped the banner.
Pop-up Messages
Pop-up Messages (Marketing → Pop-up Messages) show a full-screen image pop-up inside the member app, scheduled to specific outlets, pages, and times.
| Field | What it does |
|---|---|
| Name | An internal name for the pop-up. |
| Image | The pop-up image — 1:2 ratio, recommended 450×900. |
| Outlet | The outlet this pop-up shows for. |
| Number of times to show | How many times a member sees it before it stops. |
| Link | An optional link the pop-up opens when tapped. |
| Page | Which app page(s) it appears on — Home, Member, or Order (multi-select; defaults to Home). |
| Start / End date | The date window the pop-up runs. |
| Start / End time | The daily time window within those dates. |
| Is Active | Turn the pop-up on or off. |
A clicked-count metric records taps.
Special Dates
Special Dates (listed under Marketing → Special Date) define calendar triggers that fire date-based loyalty events — for example, an anniversary voucher.
| Field | What it does |
|---|---|
| Name | The trigger's name. |
| Month / Day | The calendar date it fires on. |
| Tags | One or more of birthday, anniversary, public-holiday, other. |
| Description | Free-text notes. |
| Membership | Limit the trigger to a tier. |
| Program type / Program | The program (e.g. a voucher) to grant when it fires. |
| Image | An image for the trigger. |
| Expire at | When the trigger stops being active. |
Feedback
Feedback (Marketing → Feedback) manages the customer survey questions your members answer — the question set behind your feedback collection.
Buy Credits
Email, SMS, and referral messages all consume credit. Buy Credits (Marketing → Buy Credits) is where you purchase more.
- Buy referral, email, and SMS service credits via Stripe.
- A billing history table records every purchase: service, count, amount, the Stripe status (Success / Fail), and date.
Your remaining balances appear on the Dashboard: a messaging-credit panel shows remaining Referral, Email, and SMS counts. When any credit type drops to 50 or below, the dashboard shows a low-balance warning — top up before your next campaign so sends don't fail.
Out of credit means no send
A campaign, bot, or tag communication can only send while you have credit of the matching type. If your Email or SMS balance is empty, those sends won't go out — watch the dashboard warning and refill under Buy Credits.
Push Notifications
superAdmin only
Notifications (/notifications) is a Rewardly-team tool, available only to the superAdmin role — it doesn't appear for merchant operators.
Push Notifications compose an app notification of a chosen type (merchant, outlet, promotion, membership-joined, membership-up/down, POS-transaction, program-transaction, redeem, and more) with a Ref ID, title, description, a public flag, a receiver, and a target audience. If you need a push sent on your behalf, contact Rewardly support.
